Khadi Papers Nepalese Washi Mitsumata Paper Sheet Smooth 54cm x 80cm JM3

This fine and smooth Artist’s handmade paper from Khadi Paper is made from the inner bark of bast fibre of Mitsumata. The plants are cropped above ground level and can be re-harvested after 3-4 years. It has been made from the native plant that can be found in the Himalayan foothills. The papers are made by using the Japanese Nagashizuki dipping and layering method of paper making. This is what helps achieve a given thickness. The fewer layers there are the thinner it will be and the more layers the thicker. In this method the sheet is formed on a mat of fine bamboo called a su. The wet sheet is transferred from the su onto a pile of sheets which are then pressed to remove water. The sheets of paper are carefully separated and brushed onto zinc sheets to dry. This paper is 30gsm so you can appreciate all the fine details and textures. This paper is perfect for drawing in ink, writing, calligraphy and printmaking. Khadi’s handmade quality can be seen in the edging and how each piece of paper will differ and have its own characteristics. Himalayan papers are unsized but their fibre is naturally non-absorbent.
