Daniel Smith Watercolour Ground Transparent 118ml

Daniel Smith Watercolour Ground Transparent 118ml is an innovative medium that allows you to transform almost any absorbent or non-absorbent surface into a suitable ground for watercolour paintings. This acrylic-based ground can be applied using a brush or foam pad, making it highly versatile for various creative projects. The Transparent Watercolour Ground is ideal for painting on a surface where you want the original surface color to show through. It can create an interesting watercolor painting when used on wood or decorative papers. For absorbent and semi-absorbent surfaces such as paper, canvas, fabric, wood, plaster, shell, and hardboard, no preparation is needed. However, for non-absorbent substrates like glass, metal, and plastic, it's recommended to abrade the surface with sandpaper or steel wool before application for optimal results. The watercolour ground has a thick, brushable consistency and can be used straight from the tub. For a smooth finish, apply with a soft, synthetic brush; for a more textured effect, use a hog bristle brush. Typically, one coat is sufficient for most materials, but very absorbent surfaces may require two or more coats. Allow the surface to cure for 24 hours before painting. Once dry, the ground will not reactivate, and colour can be lifted and scrubbed without damaging the surface. Because the ground creates a more absorbent surface than paper, less water is needed when painting. If displaying the artwork without glass, seal the surface with a UV Archival Varnish.  It should be noted that while this ground allows you to paint on any surface using watercolours, the results will not be identical to painting on traditional watercolour paper and it is not a direct substitute for watercolour paper.
